Solid Home Life 'Solid Home Life' LP
|
LST-33 - Solid Home Life
"Solid Home Life" LP
|
$12.00
|
This LP is a co-release between LST, People In A Position To Know, Fin Records, and Curly Cassettes! All of which are highly recommended!
"Solid Home Life is like the old lace that people used to make before there were machines, have you ever seen that stuff? It is a delicately woven together document of love, loss, and the mundane wrapped gently in a fiery and transcendent joy. Each track communicates personal messages from co-writers Lindsay Schief (LAKE) and Greg Olin (Graves). They are singing to each other, to others and luckily, to us. It feels as it may fall apart because it so fine, any misstep and the fabric would crumble. Nothing falls apart, and un-ironic charm moves each thread through the hoop. From the traditional folk structures to calypso rhythms, every track on Solid Home Life weaves a pattern that hooks the ear."
The LP comes on beautiful sea-blue vinyl, in full color jackets, and includes a digital download code. One-time pressing of 500 copies.

Winnie Byrd/Glass Cake 'Split' Cassette
|
LST-32 - Winnie Byrd/Glass Cake
"Split" Cassette
|
$5.00
|
Lost Sound Tapes says: "We all know that Oakland has a thriving, long running punk scene. Well did you know there's a healthy folk community there too? Winnie Byrd and Glass Cake are certainly at the forefront of that. I played a Blanket Truth show with both of them around Christmastime 2009 at Michelle (Glass Cake)'s house and it was a blast.
Winnie Byrd is the side project of Davyd Nereo of Beatbeat Whisper, a carefully crafted sibling folk duo. It differs from Beatbeat Whisper by bouncing around through folk pop, country twang, and classical baroque.
Glass Cake writes some seriously heartbreaking yet catchy and uplifting songs. Her voice makes you feel like you're riding a rollercoaster that hits a dip in the track. Recommended for fans of Watercolor Paintings. It's no coincidence Michelle Shofet of Glass Cake and Rebecca Redman of Watercolor Paintings are in Girl Band together along with Mallory Watje of Mammary.
First edition of 100 copies, with digital download, hand stamped covers and full color labels on clear purple tapes. Cover illustration by Jeff Stratford.

LST-25 - Sundance Kids
"Tell The Truth" Cassette
|
$5.00
|
Lost Sound Tapes says: "Sundance Kids, formerly of Olympia now residing in Seattle, Washington, is the creative songwriting outlet of Shelby Turner (Huge Cookies, Megabog, iji). 'Tell The Truth' is an album over a year in the making, many of which were performed on the Sundance Kids 2009 U.S. tour. Turner's songs have many twists, turns, and time changes, together with his off-kilter pop sensibility and distinct voice. He is accompanied on this album by Erin Birgy on drums/vocals (Megabog, iji, Wizards of the Ghost) and Derek Hain.

Pangea 'Pangea' Cassette
|
LST-23 - Pangea
"Pangea" Cassette
|
$5.00
|
Lost Sound Tapes says: "11 tracks of wild, catchy, pop punk like only Pangea can do and they can do no wrong. The last song on the album even utilizes auto-tuned vocals, what?! They've transformed over the last couple years from playing soulful folk pop songs to blistering, charlie brown punk songs. This description sucks, this tape DOES NOT SUCK.
Okay, so anyways, Pangea are from the greater Los Angeles area and are part of the Griznar music collective which includes great bands like Harvest Moon Society and God Equals Genocide. Inspired by bay area pop punk bands, these songs will make you want to dance like an electrocuted squirrel.
Second edition of 100 yellow tapes with silver foil labels."

Blanket Truth/Dana Jewell 'Split' Cassette
|
*New!* LST-20 - Blanket Truth/Dana Jewell
"Split" Cassette
|
$5.00
|
Lost Sound Tapes says: "The highly anticipated, much delayed split release between folk poppers Blanket Truth (fronted by Jon Manning who runs Lost Sound Tapes) and Dana Jewell (who runs Wild Animal Kingdom Records) is
finally here! The songs were recorded in mid/late 2009 and are now getting released September 2010. Some of these tracks are now old favorites for live crowds but may be brand new for people outside of the pacific northwest.
Blanket Truth conjures thoughts of Daniel Johnston, Herman Dune, or The Mountain Goats while Dana Jewell could be described as a lighter-hearted version of Simon Joyner or less-baritone Calvin Johnson. Both groups find much inspiration in Jonathan Richman and have previously covered the song "Back In Your Life".
There was a soft release of the cassette in December of 2009 for a
Blanket Truth west coast tour with a cover designed by Dana Jewell.
The new, proper release of the tape contains completely different
artwork, borrowed from a 1967 issue of Readers Digest, clear blue
tapes and black + white printed labels. Edition of 150 or so."

Math The Band 'Don't Worry' Cassette
|
LST-19 - Math The Band
"Don't Worry" Cassette
|
$5.00
|
Lost Sound Tapes: "Math The Band is a force to be reckoned with! Poppy, fun, dance tunes with lots and lots of analog synthesizer. Not to mention more BPM than any rational person would actually need. This duo puts on one of the most fun live shows this side of the Milky Way galaxy. This album takes a slightly more aggressive turn from their previous Atom And His Package-esque recordings and they are all the better for it. Think Andrew WK but cuter and just as much fun.
Second run of solid blue cassette tapes with handstamped and printed kraft paper covers." |

LST-17 - Madeline
"White Flag" Cassette
|
$5.00

Lost Sound Tapes says: "Here we have the third full length album entitled 'White Flag' from Athens, GA native, Madeline Adams, known by most as simply 'Madeline'. Her songs are hauntingly beautiful with personal lyrics and a stunning voice. 'White Flag' is the culmination of three years of hard work from Madeline while she enlisted many of her fellow Athens-based musicians including members of the Elephant 6 Collective. The CD version of the album is available from Orange Twin Records.
Second edition of 100 copies with clear yellow tapes, printed labels, and photocopied covers." |

Lost Sound Tapes says: "Cave Babies is the solo project of Mr Josh 'Hoshwa' Redman. One half of the brother/sister duo Watercolor Paintings, Hoshwa creates surprisingly delicate, yet fun, pop songs. Lost Sound Tapes is very glad to present this tape to you, it's a very special album. Finally back in stock!

A John Henry Memorial
"The Battle of the Black Cloud" Cassette
(Unread Records) |
$5.00
|
Unread Records says: "New batch of stark acoustic ballad from important songwriter. Recorded in a few takes the winter of 2003. Added sparse backdrop and sounds via wires/metal/pipes from the drunk kids around a year later. Cleaned up and released as is. Truly beautiful." |

A John Henry Memorial
"Love Songs for the Genuinely Unexciteable" Cassette
(Unread Records) |
$5.00
|
Unread Records says: "Western blues and folk meanderings from a kind and gentle singer-songwriter of epic proportions. Heartfelt ballads and dirt-fi dirges, although the meanings shine through. Poorly recorded during winter, and laid on a bed of hiss and strum. His third respective release gives a more in-tense, and personal look at love and loss. Pure beauty." |

*Featured!* A Million Years Ago
"1000000000000000000000000000" Cassette
(Self Released) |
$3.00
|
Indie Pages says: "The band's a three-piece, consisting of guitar, keyboard and drums, though while listening to these songs, you'd never know they were mising a bass player, thanks to Jordan's clever synth parts. If I had to describe the band's songs in a word, it would have to be 'anthemic'. Between their big sound and the the catchy songs, it's impossible not to sing or shout along once you've got even a minor grasp of the lyrics (seriously - try sitting still to 'You Got A Heart' or 'What You Are'). Anyways, seek this band out!" |

Actual Birds
"Vive La Fantastique Avec Actual Birds and Friends" CD
(Cassanova Temptations) |
$5.00
|
Brainwashed says: "I'm left completely confused listening to this album, trying to keep up with Dustin Krcatovich's wily, random sense of humor and creative, scattershot imagination. Musically, Krcatovich is ubiquitous. One moment his music is the product of exposure to home recordings and pop music and at another it is the product of listening to "Revolution 9" too many times." |

Andy Brazendale
"05 to 08" Cassette
(Fox Pop Recording Co.) |
$5.00
|
Indie Pages says: "As the title hints, this is a collection of home-recordings from the last few years from this Australian fellow. Some of his older songs on the first side remind me of the Marbles, except for his oldest one, "Cold Locked Cupboards", which is more in the quiet, acoustic Elliott Smith vein. His three songs from this year, however, are a lot closer to Grandaddy in their slower moments (especially the hushed vocals), with "Surely Enough" being a dead ringer (complete with cascading synth noises)." |

Bird By Snow
"Subtle Body" Cassette
(Gnome Life) |
$5.00
|
Gnome Life says: ""Subtle Body" summons songs from the subtle/energetic landscape of glorious California. Songs smuggled back from an astral hike through vibrational hills.
Recorded on a cassette tape with one mic at home, Bird By Snow takes a breather from recent studio excursions and returns to the lo-fi side of life with this EP. Turns out the old ways are still full of surprises, and the songs here ought to surprise you too... true to form it's not like any other BBS album. Simultaneously intimate and super spaced out, it kinda feels like the soundtrack to a lucid dream – one where you fly out over the ocean, and it just goes on and on and on!
(Pi) was chosen as the symbol for this album because it stands in for the theoretical number associated with the arc of a wave, "Subtle Body" has that same kind of slow unfolding." |

*New!* Boyish Charms, The
"Infinity In Its Infancy" LP
(Talking Helps) |
$10.00
|
Talking Helps says: "Sprinkled with notions of indie pop, rock, and folk (one supposes), The Boyish Charms crafted the album with Roy Silverstein at The Habitat, a studio located in the Golden Hill section of San Diego, California. The seven-song release was completed in between Cam’s drumming obligations with The Finches. Based in Los Angeles and San Diego, the lads came together in Golden Hill, along with some friends, to deliver the alternately scorching/melodic/driving/nuanced set of songs." |

*New!* Brick Mower
"Why Are We Doing This?" 7"
(Rok Lok Records) |
$5.00
|
Rok Lok says: "Based out of New Brunswick, NJ the power trio of Brick Mower has been a obsession of mine from the first second I heard their incredible "Floors EP" on Stumparumper Records and Viking On Campus. And with each subsequent release and live show since I was chomping at the bit for an opportunity to release some music for them. It is a honor and privilege to be able to be a part of sharing Brick Mower's rad music with the world. Brick Mower plays a brand of fuzzy guitar indie rock that I can't get enough of. If you dig catchy indie rock/punk stuff that is like Superchunk, New Sweet Breath, Small and fluf then say hello to your new favorite band. "Why Are We Doing This?" is limited to 200 copies and is packaged in fold over cover and includes a insert."

Brother Mitya
"Home Recordings" Cassette
(Folktale) |
$5.00
|
Folktale says: "Good things come to those who wait. This here is a long awaited follow up to Brother Mitya’s 2005 CDR “Melting Wax Daisies…”. It’s a collection of nine songs that were literally saved from the wreckage of a house fire that destroyed his home in Arcata, Ca. in February of 2008. The songs themselves are delicate and sound like they could break at any given moment. On this release he has a bit more direct and less raspy vocal delivery, a lot of times making the songs more catchy but at the same time not abandoning his incredibly unique vocal stylings either. Classical guitar with whispered lyrics, occasional accompaniment, and various sound collages, all soaked in a layer of warm, lo-fi hiss. Black cassettes with printed labels and color covers designed by Kristina Collantes with an insert that was saved from the flames." |

*Featured!* Charlie Mcalister
"Turn of the Century Photograph" Cassette
(Unread Records) |
$5.00
|
Skyway says: "Out of some strange southern town, the ever-ecentric Mcalister emerges with yet another batch of off-key quirk-folk ramblings. Telling stories of a murdering bog man, plantation life, and yellow fever, these bizzare tunes annoy the hell out of most people but eventually grow on you if given the chance. This tape offers a well-edited and low-risk introduction to the mans fine work" |

|

"Bring Me My Own Head" Cassette

Collapsing Opposites
"Real Moving" Cassette
(Radical Clatter) |
$5.00
|
Collapsing Opposites says: "Collapsing Opposites make loud arty rock and roll
that would fit nicely on a mix tape with Talking Heads, The Fall, The Residents, and Half Japanese. Their songwriting canon explores issues of time, space, economics, meaning-making, growing-up, mental illness, and of course, the role and place of the artist in contemporary society. The group takes pride in considering their own political, economic and environmental impacts, and they try to be responsible musical citizens. Besides writing songs like Non-Profit Volunteer Band and 2008’s The Cost of Music, they also take action by playing mostly all-ages shows and spending countless hours volunteering with actual non-profits like the Safe Amplification Site Society."

Daniel Francis Doyle
"History of Consideration" Cassette
(Slanty Shanty Records Tape Club) |
$5.00
|
Slanty Shanty says: "Limited run of 50!!!
Daniel Francis Doyle has been making guitar noise, drumming, and singing for over ten years as both a solo artist, and in groups both departed (Early Lines) and active (When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth). His birth-name moniker solo project is certainly the fiercest endeavor of his activities. Daniel accompanies his own live recorded guitar loops with powerfully tumbling drum beats while screaming and hollering through a headset that clings on for dear life. With so many "one-man bands" vying for your scant DIY dollars of late, it's hard to find one that actually pursues the idea beyond the realm of novelty. It isn't enough to just setup and knock out a set of bass drum and guitar tunes anymore. Doyle's intense live sets feature almost embarrassingly candid lyrical content combined with a voluminous guitar-scratch and feedback attack that pushes the solo concept into a loud and uncomfortable place, often leaving crowds confused and excited.

Deep Pockets
"Demo" Cassette
(Rok Lok Records) |
$5.00
|
Rok Lok says: "There has been a nice little renaissance if you will of great indie rock here on Long Island with new bands starting to sprout up who sound like they came via a time machine circa 1994. And one of those newer bands are none other than Deep Pockets. Formed by Matt and Darren of Everything Sucks , Conor of Thought & Memory and Justin (formerly of Gracer); Deep Pockets play jangly, melodic 90s styled indie rock that recalls bands like Pavement, Silkworm and Sebadoh. For months these sounds were stewing in a basement in Hicksville and now Deep Pockets are ready to share their four song demo with the world. This debut release is limited to 200 pro duped/imprinted fire engine red clam shell cassettes and packaged in full color j-cards with a blue swivel case. Comes with a download code. Dude Japan
"The Things That Matter" CD
(Rok Lok Records) |
$5.00
|
Rok Lok says: "Unlike our previous material where it was just to write songs that we wanted to hear and play with "The Things That Matter..." we consciously tried to put together a album where there was a flow and every song's relationship to one another made sense. We couldn't be prouder, we feel we have created a varied album beginning to end. "The Things That Matter" is a story of triumph, tragedy, hope, fear, longing and love. Fear not indie rock fans; Dude Japan have not gone prog or anything like that. The same buzzing guitar, catchy Superchunk meets Velocity Girl meets Further meets Built to Spill indie pop rock is still there but with a bit more variety. We think you'll enjoy it. "The Things That Matter..." features artwork by Book Store bassist Jonathan Kaplan who previous did the artwork for the "Teenage Summer EP". This is a limited cd pressing of 300 copies and all CDS come packaged in a jewel case with full color artwork and a tray card." |

$5.00
|
Splendid says "In a nasal Mountain Goats spoken/sung delivery, Scott Jacobson, aka Ehrlichman (Watergate?), gives an intimate look at his life and his songwriting. With only guitar, keyboard, drum machine and the magic of four-track production, Jacobson manages to charm. His lyrics are concerned with a small town upbringing, and rocky love affairs that can both cut to the heart and make you wince once or twice. What this collection lacks in polish, it easily makes up in raw honesty. Jacobson has a ready ear for melody and he exploits it expertly through minimal keyboard lines and dubbed guitar leads that do much to overcome the bare bones style. The sound quality is poor, but the songs are strong." |

Everyone Except Me
"Sidewalks" CDR
(Acosm) |
$5.00
|
Myspace says: "Over the years, Michelle has become increasingly outraged by women’s role in music, especially in the rock community. Hence, she set out to try and change the perception that they cannot deliver anything other than a transparent love song with one guitar and her voice. Though Michelle’s background is rooted in Central New Jersey’s punk rock community, everyone except me’s music is almost entirely acoustic and very anarcho-folk oriented. EEM plays shows and open mics, but plays most often on Philadelphia street corners. Everyone except me is willing to play anywhere at anytime for little or no pay (I will play your living room, basement, attic, backyard, that little room you've got underneath the stairs, under a bridge, behind a dumpster, in your car, on your favorite steet corner, or wherever), just for the love of music." |

*New!* For Serious This Time
"Weird Life" LP
(Life On An Island) |
$10.00
|
Musical Mathematics says: "What I love about FSTT is the way they manage to create their own unique brand of garage noise, and with a distinct level of professional consideration, they manage to get it just right. The combination of gritty guitars and drums with passionate vocals, much like the early days of Weezer, is littered throughout this EP and no more evident than in their third track ‘When I’m Tall’. Ending with a beautiful and light guitar melody that suitably captures and carries you into the following track."

The Bat And The Bird says: "for the agenda makes music for inquisitive spirits, those who have spent enough nights staring at the bottom of a bottle to know sometimes 'there just needs to be a human voice. it doesn't matter what you say.' the kind of person that might dedicate their free time to imagining up oddities like the 'vampire octopus' (or better yet, seeking them out) or laugh at the thought of an apocalyptic war against the animal kingdom..." |

Four Eyes
"Towards the End of Cosmic Loneliness" 7"
(Puzzle Pieces) |
$5.00
|
Puzzle Pieces says: "Out of Boston, Massachusetts (Somerville to be exact), Four Eyes play emotionally raw indie rock in the vein of Dinosaur Jr. with a dose of twinkle in their riffage. This band got its start in the summer of 2009 as Nick, Dan, and Will obsessed over the second Teenage Cool Kids LP, though they didn't play their first show until November of that year. Four Eyes are approaching life as a seasoned band with Towards the End of Cosmic Loneliness, their second 7". Featuring members of Daniel Striped Tiger and Tussin. Download here" |

French Quarter
"Desert Wasn't Welcome" LP
(Off Tempo) |
$12.00
|
Off Tempo says: "The newest album by Arizona's French Quarter, Desert Wasn't Welcome, marks the fourth full-length release by 23-year-old songwriter Stephen Steinbrink. While French Quarter has been primarily a solo recording project for countless tours and a deluge of small run tapes, cd-rs, and vinyl, Desert Wasn’t Welcome marks the first collaborative recorded effort of Steinbrink and his long-time live band.
Aiming to craft an album that captured the feeling of a live French Quarter show, Steinbrink, with bassist Preston Bryant and drummer Chase Kamp, completed Desert Wasn't Welcome in three days from May 18-20, 2011. Recorded initially to 2" tape by Bob Schwenkler at the perennial Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia, WA, and joined on Piano and Keyboards by Andrew Dorsett of LAKE, Desert Wasn't Welcome showcases Steinbrink's most sincere, focused, and accessible pop music to date."

Fuck Montreal
"Winter Mange" 7"
(Stumparumper) |
$5.00
|
Stumparumper says: "'Winter Mange' is Fuck Montreal's debut vinyl release after countless previous releases on just about every other kind of media available (tape, cdr, vhs, who knows what else?), and it's a stunner. Over 14 minutes of music is crammed onto this small platter, taking full advantage of a format that is too often relegated to carrying 4 minutes of music...TOTAL. This is rare music - one reviewer compared FM to Blood on the Wall, the Swirlies, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Harvey Milk, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, and the Unicorns, all in a single review. It is music that comes from a space that you or I can't know...it has always been here, and will still be around for download after everyone's gone. There is nothing in the way except the sound." |

Goes Calypso
"Mitt Liv Som Katt" Cassette
(Life's Blood) |
$5.00

Life's Blood says: "Melancholic noise, dance music, and the weird space in between. Endlessly textured and contorted electronic drones that ebb and flow, building up to huge-sounding and surprising cadences that crash like sleet and hale; four-on-the-floor club-ready jams: unselfconsciously, infectiously, and fundamentally pop. And, a Casiotone For The Painfully Alone cover." |

Graves
"Summr Bummr" Cassette
(Curly Cassettes) |
$6.00
|
PIAPTK Blog says: "As is pretty typical of the more recent Graves records (Easy Not Easy (one of my favorite albums of all time), Seldom Slumber), Summr Bummr really plays with the traditional idea of how albums are "supposed to be". There are tunes that repeat with minor variations (O O O Around The World), instrumental reprises, and complete reworkings of tunes into alternate versions (Lazer Show and Hollywood).
Summr Bummr seems to be a concept album about coming into adulthood. Lyrical themes of homework, missing the bus, skipping class, mailing thank you notes, etc help recall the excitement and uncertainty of the summer after high school graduation, without ever becoming cheesy or overly nostalgic."

By the way - The Great Valley's record reflect this feeling very good. It's more like sitting in a cellar with just a dripping water pipe. No feelings of sun and beaches, just a weird nightmare about that. Well done! Spooooooky! Tip: Lucky Me!" |

Horowitz
"The Knitwear Generation EP" Cassette
(Fika Recordings) |
$5.00
|
"Horowitz and cassettes have a long history. Back in the early 2000s, Pete was a member of Trilemma, a self-professed “glo-fi” outfit headed up by Rob Jones (Venus Beads/Exit Condition). Most of the Trilemma stuff, including their amazing Crowded Wilderness 7” EP on Kitchen Records, was recorded on a Tascam 8-track cassette machine. Fast-forward to 2004 and the first Horowitz EP. 30 cassette copies. We just couldn’t let it lie. I wonder if anyone still has one? If you do, let us know! Anyway, we hope you enjoy this record as much as we enjoyed making it. A lot of love has gone into the Fika recordings project – a passion that mirrors our own love for cassettes – and we think it shows."

*Featured!* iji
"Cool Dream" CDR
(Seashoes) |
$5.00
|
iji says: "I finished a new iji album. It's called "Cool Dream". It's all new songs that we have been playing around Seattle lately and some that I played on my short west coast solo tour with Megabog in January. The Songs are different then anything I have done before in allot of ways. I feel like I put way more thought and energy into the structure, arrangements and lyrics, and in the studio (my bedroom) we did a lot of posi-friendship-witchcraft to ensure that a good vibe bleeds through the final mixes. The album prominently features our new horn section which I am really excited about. Fred Thomas of Saturday Looks Good To Me and City Center mastered the album." |

*Featured!* iji
"Bird-Man Movement Team" 7"
(Off Tempo) |
$5.00
|
Zach from iji says: "'Bird-Man Movement Team' documents some new sounds and styles we have been experimenting with. Each song features vastly different vibes and textures, from the electro-funk feeling of the song 'Viber', not unlike my recent side project release 'Zachary David Jammin Get Free All The Time', to the noisy live goof-ball breakdown in the the albums last song “Whatever”. One idea that brings these songs together is the idea of using the Bass Guitar as the featured instrument throughout. Most prominent on the intro of 'Wavy One' which happens to be about my two best friends and band members Erin Birgy (Mega Bog) and Shelby Turner (Sundance Kids). Singing some new songs, feeling some new feelings. I hope you love this because I had so much fun making it!"

"Yerself" LP
(Self Released) |
$10.00
|
Cody Django says: "Zach Burba is a heroic figure: investigating shadows, courting spooky feelings and asking tough questions; the fearless leader of a ragtag group of troubadours, each adding exponentially to the party.
YERSELF is indie-pop that nods to new-wave, funk and soft rock, to be shelved next to Talking Heads or The Unicorns — that is, if I had plans to take it out of my record player. A weirdo pop classic, destined to be played ad nauseum, forever."

Inchworms
"Inchworms" Cassette
(Cereal Records) |
$4.00
|
Cereal Records says: "This cassette was recorded in one full day. Half of the album in a small sized living room in Sammamish, Washington and the other half recorded on a reel-to-reel 24 track in an old fire department building (the Department of Safety) in Anacortes, Washington. Songs like 'Sebadoh' and 'Lake Union' bring heavy overtone and thought-out musical placement, while lo-fi songs like 'Candle Wax Fires' and 'Half My Head' give the album a genuine homemade feel."
Lost Sound Tapes says: "This release definitely has an Unread Records feel - stripped down, bedroomy, acoustic, folk pop. Authentic." |
|
|
*Featured!* Inchworms
"NB b/w Spencer Sult" Cassette
(Cereal Records) |
$3.00
|
Lost Sound Tapes says: "2 song cassingle from Redmond, WA's Inchworms aka Gio of Cereal Records. The two best Inchworms tracks to date, NB is a summertime jam that makes you wanna bask in the pacific northwest sunshine and the B-side is a melodic, trebly, instrumental named after a NW good guy. Guitar and drums, simple lo-fi indie pop. Sounds like it's straight out of 1994 with vocals recorded in the bathroom. Each track gets one side of tape and plays twice. Why? I dunno, but it's just crazy enough to work." |

Bring Back The Magic says: "Justin's side is 6 or so short songs played with acoustic guitars, toys, and sometimes just his voice. Some of my favorite lo-fi songs. Andrew's side is 2 acoustic songs that are more like you might expect acoustic songs to sound like. So good." |

Kevin Huelbig Jr.
"Summer Is Over" Cassette
(Monotone Tapes) |
$4.00
|
Shmat says: "This is a great, folksy release of 8 songs in the vein of East River Pipe and Galaxie 500. And like F.M. Cornog from ERP, Huelbig has a knack for using otherwise cheesy effects such as reverb/echo in such classy way. In his hands, the effects and layering of instruments become folk interpreters that help bring out the best in the tracks; the slight droning guitar chords start to sadly shimmer a bit more than normal and the atmosphere gets pensively rustic. The Shmat was highly pleased with the beautiful, windswept character of this release. Out on Monotone Recordings." |

Lil Hospital
"The Universe Sucks" 7"
(Hugpatch) |
$5.00
|
Indie Pages says: "Lil' Hospital go from a nice bedroom pop project to a good pop band to a veritable indiepop powerhouse, only to have them break up right at their prime. And we only get a measly 5-song EP on the way out! Lil' Hospital have improved in every way: Kevin's songs and playing are both better, and the band (now a trio, rounded out by Mat Specific Heats and Frank Besties) are tighter and punchier than ever." |

LIMA
"Brother Sister" Cassette
(Slanty Shant Records Tape Club) |
$5.00
|
Slanty Shanty says: "Thanks for looking at my album. LIMA was a rebellion I had over 5 years ago. As the years progressed I guess I did too. Wanting a band I decided to grab only my closest friends, one of which was my wife, and do some touring, calling it, LIMA RESEARCH SOCIETY. Eventually folks move on, and LIMA RESEARCH SOCIETY lost two amazing core members to their own understandable aspirations. So it’s LIMA again.
BROTHERSISTER is my first album back as just LIMA. It was truly a wonderful experience to make. There’s something about jumping around like a child in your bedroom hooting and hollering, thinking that you can change the world as a thirty year old man that was very therapeutic.
Also! Enjoy the three bonus tracks at the end of the tape, exclusive to this release.
Running Time: 46 Minutes" |

Lisa Bouvier & Allt Ar Musik
"Indien Ar Dod" Cassette
(Fika Recordings) |
$5.00
|
I’d had the idea of swedish indiepop songs about swedish indiepop for quite some time, and Andreas was the perfect partner for this project. We translated our favourite namedropping songs and wrote some of our own (as you might have noticed, the song Andreas is a cover of my song Andrew, I thought I was quite witty when I came up with it).
I can’t remember who played what when and where, but I have a strong memory of Andreas playing saxophone in a hearing test room in the basement of our school, and I know I was quite happy with my bass playing somewhere at my work one late night. Does it really matter? We did it together, with a little help from Lars Diurlin and Emmy Hogstrom-Tagesson. Thank you!
Limited run of 100, this is a handmade cassette and comes with a tea selected by Lisa Bouvier and a cake recipe, to fulfil the Fika concept. Includes download code. |

Little Wings
"Black Grass" Cassette
(Gnome Life) |
$6.00
|
Gnome Life says: ""Black Grass" is Little Wings' most recent studio album, released early 2011 on LP & CD, and now for the first time on cassette tape (+Mp3). It is the first Little Wings record in a few years and it swells and sweeps with high tides and instantly immortal jams.
Recorded/produced with Tim Bluhm (Mother Hips) the tunes on "Black Grass" are widely varried in style and sound, but the thread of a particularly rare light and beauty is here throughout. Fresh arrangements and some tight playing and production make a handsome a table for Kyle Field's (A.K.A. Little Wings) feast of lyrics... maybe his best ever. Truly a delight to listen to, and our to honor present this fine album on an antiquated format.
This volume of Echomancy is a water drop, which is the logo of RAD, Kyle's label that released "Black Grass" on LP & CD. In Kyle's words: "it's like the minor sponsor of the tape, like a surfer's leash sponsor."

Manners
"Look Into Look Unto" Cassette
(Sun Of Bees) |
$4.00
|
Mango Nebula says: "Manners is the man Greg Beson, sometimes called Beesun Greggy, The Son of Bees, or Honey Photosynthesis.
The sounds center around meditative guitar and Greg's whispery-as-the-wind vocals. It's spiritually nostalgic like deja vu in reverse, the music already familiar with you.
'Breath of Your Heart' and 'Knives' are both tragically beautiful. The latter having the shivering line "I wear a coat of knives. Try and hold me." Although, It's good to know that if you're ever out a need a knife, you can always get one from Greg's coat." |

Maria
"Love Is Something I Know Nothing About" 7"
(Yay!) |
$5.00

Fraction Discs says: "'Love Is Something I Know Nothing About' is the highly anticipated fourth single from this fab indiepop quartet from Oxnard, California. Just as the case is with the YAY! label, Maria too just keeps getting better and better with every new release! On this lovely three track 7” single every song is an a-side and a reason to bounce around quite frenetically! If you’re into jangly pop with boy/girl vocals and if you’ve ever fancied bands like Orange Juice, The Pastels, Cause Co-Motion!, Sea Lions or Second-Hand Furniture you’ll soon have Maria spinning on that turntable of yours. Mega Bog
"Okay Human" Cassette
(Gnome Life) |
$5.00
|
Gnome Life says: "May "Okay Human" welcome you to an effortless groove space, a dimension populated with glorious word forms, turns-of-phrase simultaneously alien and familiar, profound and playful – "My board, it crumbles in a heavy ocean weeze. I met my new best friend while crawling to my knees" – So what's it sound like?
"Okay Human" sounds like a show at your paleolithic cave/community-center. It's eleven songs that will reach you on many interpenetrating levels – make you dance, sing along, ponder, laugh – all with a kind of chilled-out grace.
Mega Bog is from Seattle, but these tunes migrate from San Diego to Vancouver every 30 minutes... blend the whole west coast together and you've got the right habitat for this dubby and golden, deep and distant album. This radical tape comes in mono, and the mp3's are in stereo, room sound in tact in both glorious formats." |

"Shine Shine" Cassette

Spooky Town says: "Northern California's Mountainhood has a long long long discography, and we're psyched about the latest. Shine Shine is sometimes sweet folk songs, sometimes a wild party (like a bunch of horsemen dancing around a stump), and just about always full of plenty of goblin voices. Take it on your roadtrip and get nostalgic about redwoods and the moon. With an 8-page minibook of art by Michael Hilde. edition of 200, C38."

"Grab The Bottle And Run To The Hill" 7"
(Bumble Bear) |
$5.00

Indie Pages says: "Wow, Mike sure has come a long way from the Mathlete records from a couple years ago. Heck, I'd even say this sounds better than the cd he just put out! This five song ep has a more natural sound, with acoustic based songs, augmented with clean electric guitar, organ (and I don't mean a Casio), and tambourines and other assorted percussion."
Lost Sound Tapes says: "This is one of the best bedroom folk pop EPs of all time! Buy this, it's a classic. Mike Downey also used to be in the band WOLFIE. 'The Light, The Heat' has a chorus about the movie 'Say Anything'. What are you waiting for??" |

Nicole Kidman
"Teen Worship" Cassette
(Obeast Tapes) |
$5.00
|
Obeast Tapes says: "Nicole Kidman is Jon Barba of Ports o Call fame. The dude has been a huge boon to the burgeoning West Covina underground music scene booking many shows at his home, and releasing music zines and mixtapes to a pretty broad audience. Nicole Kidman is his venture into the world of weirdo-folk, 90s emo rock, and partly demented but wholly compelling song writing. Those who know Jon will understand what I mean when i say this tape is Miley-Centric, those who don’t will surely figure it out with one listen. But dont stop at one listen, his songs are catchy and inspiring. He lifts you up by dragging himself down. Like jesus, we all owe him some serious playthroughs. Comes with full color art on a double-sided jcard with full lyric inserts. Second run ltd to 50." |

Outside The Museum
"With Clouds" Cassette
(Self Released) |
$5.00
|
Outside The Museum says: "Nine songs self-recorded in an apartment on the outskirts of Paris in between April and October 2010. Birds, trains and creaky wooden chairs in the distance."
God Is In The TV says: "This is a neat little record, most of the song's are simple and charming and Catt's vocals blend well with his perky guitar playing; there are hints at experimentation here and the idea that he could begin to blend these styles together is exciting. Despite being a little disjointed at times this is an absolutely lovely piece of work."
Lost Sound Tapes says: "This is Ben from Ghosts. Check out this new tape!" |

Wil-Ru Records says: "This EP is the first official release by Ebi Nasution also known as Panda Beach. Ebi recorded these songs on a cell phone at her home in Jakarta Indonesia between May and August of 2009. Beautiful mellow and atmospheric folk music reminiscent of Sybille Baier, Vashti Bunyan and Kazu Makino. Park/A Boy Named Thor
"Six New Ways to Hold Your Girl While Dancing" 7"
(Unread Records) |
$5.00
|
Indiepages says: "Three songs each from Park and A Boy Named Thor, two lo-fi indiepop one-man bands. I shouldn't say lo-fi, though, as these songs sound like they were actually recorded pretty well (no hiss or noise). The Park songs are much better than most of the stuff I've previously heard from him (well, except the third one, which is about 30 seconds of scrapy noise). He plays casio-pop along with guitars, piano and double-tracked vocals. On the flip are three more great songs from A Boy Named Thor, which is jangly acoustic-based pop, reminding me of Tullycraft. His high-pitched voice takes a little getting used to, but I got used to it long ago. Nice handmade watercolored covers, too." |

*Featured!* Pedagogues
"Exit Valve" Cassette
(Radical Clatter) |
$5.00
|
Lost Sound Tapes says: "A truly special release! Pedagogues is the solo, home recording project of Aaron from Bad Fate (now defunct badass Canadian rockers). He takes cues from early Sebadoh, Moon Socket, and Eric's Trip to create bedroom guitar rock anthems. It's got all the right elements in place: tape hiss, growling guitars, weird sounds, layers of fuzz, and a very sharp sense of melody without necessarily being sweet. Oh yeah, Aaron also runs the label Radical Clatter.
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

Penny Hill
"Un-Button Your Heart" Cassette
(Slanty Shanty Records Tape Club) |
$5.00
|
Slanty Shanty says: "Penny Hill is an alter ego of Norman, Oklahoma's Hilary Pitchlynn, but shhh... don't tell anyone. Hesitant to ever step on a stage, Penny wrote songs late at night in her bedroom long before ever letting anyone in. Her poetic lyrics, wandering melodies, and penetrating vocals create songs that are somehow larger than their component parts. A self-taught guitarist, Penny Hill is not interested or motivated by theory, she prefers to just let the instrument speak.
Life experience and emotional honesty is the cornerstone of Penny Hill's sincere songwriting. Either solo or with a backing band, Penny's songs have the power to speak to the hearts of her audience and draw them into her world of passion and mysticism. Beneath the surface of her sounds are hints of another world, full of beautiful and melancholy mysteries. To witness her perform is more like visiting an oracle than going out to a show.

Poor School
"Live @ the Raven Cafe" Cassette
(Tummy Rock) |
$3.00
|
Tummy Rock says: "Poor School plays banging improv, punk, noise jazz. This tape release delivers a lo-fi, bombastic live set from the now defunct Raven Cafe in Missoula, MT. This show Poor School shared the bill with usaisamonster. The band was however coaxed into closing the night for fear their banging drums, wailing sax, and distorted guitar would scare away the crowd. This tape can be a 24 Minute Cassingle since it has only one song on it. However the B-side will take you to an unfamiliar memory from the A-Side. Hand Painted and limited to 100 tapes, this is one noisy treat." |

His voice reminds the girls here of Dave Longstrength/Dirty Projectors--spastic jumps around the scales leave our heads spinning and our bras coming undone. Live, patrick (aka Redbear), belts out these propulsive jams, banging on his guitar, whooping and wailing and generally pounding the shit out of his instrument. the ladies here love animal music (generally) and animal bands (generally) and Redbear definitely fits this criteria. Ryan Doyle
"Campaign To Kill The Sparrows" Cassette
(Monotone Tapes) |
$4.00
|
Shmat says: "The first 8 songs on Campaign To Kill The Sparrows are like tiny mystical thought fragments encased in tape hiss and an abstract tapestry of spoken and sung phrases. I only had a walkman to play this stuff with. So through headphones, the variety of vocal pannings was almost disorienting. When Doyle slurs almost drunkenly on the pretty 'Rookie Valentine #2', it only serves to heighten the honesty and heartfelt nature of the material on this tape. The second side continues the more formulated song trend, proving to be nice and compact folk/pop ditties. For those who need concrete comparisons, i could throw out a couple names: Palace Brothers, maybe a little Half Japanese. I don't think Doyle will ever be accused of being boring." |

Scribbler
"My Old Lady" 7"
(Stumparumper) |
$5.00
|
Stumparumper says: "6 songs, nearly 13 minutes of music made especially for Scribbler's extensive Canadian tour in March. One side beautiful and moving folk, the other an electrified aural thrashing of your senses. Is it really the same band? This long-playing 7" does an excellent job of evoking the excitement of seeing the band live or at work with a 4-track - the rawness of the music, the snide comments of the audience, and the emotion put forth by the band. One is able to hear the many sides of Scribbler on only 2 sides of wax.
Edition of 300 (half of which went to the band) on black vinyl with hand-silkscreened and numbered jackets and hand-drawn labels." |

Sea Lions
"Let's Groove" 7"
(Yay! Records) |
$5.00
|
Skatterbrain says: "The Sea Lions hail from from YAY! Records' home turf of Oxnard, CA and are fronted by Adrian Pillado. They play quick, shambling pop songs that will not only make your little POP heart just melt away to nothing, but will leave you flailing about wildly on the dance floor before you even knew what hit you! Reading down the song titles on the single, you get a pretty solid idea of what The Sea Lions are all about: "Let's Groove" on a "Beautiful Day" with "Good Feelings" – Cheesy or not, having listened to both "Beautiful Day" and "Good Feelings", oh, about 15 times now, I can safely vouch for that being spot-on!" |

Sea Lions / Hand Glops
"Split" Cassette
(Obeast Tapes) |
$5.00
|
Obeast Tapes says: "The Sea Lions / Handglops split showcases two groups that reside on opposite ends of the country, as well as opposite ends of the pop spectrum. Sea Lions will inevitably remind you of the feelings of exuberance that came along with those early adolescent experiences such as kissing girls, getting high, acting dumb and acting cool all while wearing an ear to ear smile. Handglops reflects the opposite in that it will remind you of those bummed out, confused moments when your identity and morality become blurred, basically the bad times. All of the songs on this tape are as contagious as H1N1, but way more fun to dance to. Each tape comes hand numbered with full color, fold out, reversible j-cards and color labels on clear tapes. Limited to 100." |

*Featured!* Shenandoah Davis
"We; Camera" Cassette
(Off Tempo) |
$7.00
|
Womenfolk says: "Every once in awhile, you’ll listen to something by an artist you’re completely unfamiliar with and suddenly, your ears perk up and you begin to listen a bit more closely, a bit more intently. And then suddenly, you’re in love. Meet Shenandoah Davis... possessing a style that lives somewhere within the blurry boundaries of neo-classicism, Davis' music has been likened to that of harpist Joanna Newsom, although Davis' key instrument is the piano. At times sparse and thankfully gloss-free, Davis' songs feel as if they've lived in another century and fought their way back to the present day in order to tell their amazing stories."
Lost Sound Tapes says: "Highly recommended and comes with a digital download code." |

Soft City, The
"Self Titled" CD
(Plastilina Records) |
$10.00
|
Ear Drum says: "I guess you can call The Soft City an “indiepop supergroup” with former members of bands like Comet Gain, Kicker, Ladybug Transistor, A Boy Named Thor and Crystal Stilts. The band started as the solo project of Phil Sutton (Comet Gain, Kicker). The Soft City is no longer a solo-project, but a full band. Dora Lubin’s strong vocals remind me of someone, but I really can’t tell who. It’s someone good, I know that much.
The Soft City’s self-titled debut-album is full of lovely pop songs with great melodies and jangly guitars. When I listen to these songs, I get the same feeling as I do when I listen to songs by The Go-Betweens and especially the ones Grant McLennan wrote. They may be upbeat and happy, but there’s always some kind of thoughtful melancholy beneath the happy melodies."

Stars Are Insane
"9 Untitled Songs" CDR
(Rok Lok Records) |
$5.00
|
Rok Lok Records says: "'Nine Untitled Songs' is the first Stars Are Insane release since 2001's out of print 'Gay' and was written to have it's compositions selected for use in an original film. Following in the tradition of previous Stars Are Insane releases the songs captured here showcase a wide palette of minimalistic ambient sounds that linger and slowly ebb and flow to create songs out of mere washes of sound. Taking nods from such shoegazing noise torch bearers My Bloody Valentine as well as contemporary atmospheric indie rock giants as Explosions in the Sky, Stars Are Insane is able to take sounds and found melodies that may be deemed useless by the casual songwriter and cultivates such lush compositions that bears more resemblance to atmospherics rather than just songs. “Nine Untitled Songs” should serve as primer to new fans and as an aural listening pleasure to long time fans of this cult four track recording project. Each one comes in an intricate handmade package. Made in two separate pressings of 50 with varying colors of sleeves for a total of 100." |

Stoves, The
"Come On Along" 7"
(Monotone Tapes) |
$5.00
|
Shmat says: "Presented here are two humble folk songs from New Jersey's The Stoves, comprised of Ryan Doyle and Kevin Huelbig, Jr. 'Come On Along' has a laid back feel that sounds sort of like the Kings of Convenience but while those Norwegian balladeers often sing their harmonies straight up using thirds, The Stoves employ a sort of threaded call and response to create a nicely bleak voicing, almost like stream of consciousness talking. But 'Speechless' has more of a shoegazey rather than folk feel to it and might feel right at home on a Field Mice album. Again, the two voices rotate to provide a nice counterpoint against both strumming and picking from the acoustic guitar. Good stuff." |

*Featured!* Top Surprise
"Everything Must Go" Cassette
(Pug Records) |
$5.00
|
Pug Records says: "Everything Must Go , Top Surprise’s debut, was produced by Le Almeida (Coloração Desbotada) and Paulo Casaes (Fujimo) during two drunken days at brothers Andre and Daniel’s apartment. Vocals were recorded in the bathroom, guitars in the living room and drums in dad’s bedroom, to the neighbors’ despair. The results sound as strong as any recent “shitgaze” record you’ve heard — but with a subtlety only someone who worked as a telephone operator could conceive. Hysterical guitars and joggly drums explode into the songwriting, with female backing vocals resembling bees inside the speaker. From the obvious admiration of American college rock to hints of post-punk, the EP ends with a folk-tinged incursion into Jeff Mangum/Elliott Smith territory."

Treasure Mammal
"Knewage" Cassette
(Slanty Shanty Records Tape Club) |
$5.00
|
Slanty Shanty says: "Venezuelan Abelardo Gil’s solo project Treasure Mammal is the soundtrack to your next DMT trip. Collages of noises, samples, and Casio keyboards bubble to the top like some sort of John Zorn or Mike Patton bastard side project. Occasionally as abrasive as Atari Teenage Riot with thickly distorted blast beats and keyboards, Treasure Mammal isn’t afraid to tear down any barrier, exploring new territory seemingly with each song. Drug users be wary, this might be too mindblowing to use as the backdrop to your next heavy trip.
Running Time: 44 Minutes" |

*Featured!* Tyson Ballew
"The Summer Of Dodos" Cassette
(Tummy Rock) |
$3.00
|
Missoula Independent says: "There's something a little bit Billy Joe Armstrong about Tyson Ballew's vocals—the way he sings about crushes made me recently unearth Green Day’s 1,039/ Smoothed Out Slappy Hours just to hear 'The One I Want.' That said, the local troubadour injects his own dramatic notions of love into his newest album, and darkens them with an end-of-the-world earnestness.
In fact, Ballew might be the perfect acoustic guitarist to hang out with during the apocalypse, mostly because his angst is cradled in starry-eyed acceptance for whatever excitement—good or bad—happens next. (Erika Fredrickson)" |

Up Set, The
"Making a Connection with the Ground" CDR
(Workaholics on Holiday) |
$5.00
|
Workaholics on Holiday says: "The first american (well, the first non-danish) band to grace the w-o-h! catalog is the Up Set - usually a solo outfit for K.B. Blankson, but here, he's accompanied by a backing band. Compared to previous stellar lo-fi/twee releases from K.B., this pro-printed cd-r is a pleasantly surprising upgrade - to charming, amped up indie pop/rock. "Holiday 4-Way" 7"
(Stumparumper) |
$5.00
|
Stumparumper says: "I asked these bands to come up with a Christmas song, original or otherwise, and they all delivered on a level about 6 stories higher than I had ever hoped. Banned Books kicks things off with a punk song about what might or might not happen with the snowman sitting in your front yard. Granny Frost turns up the bass fuzz for a scathing (and non-sequitur) take on the holiday season. Hoop Dreams rocks from the perspective of Joseph, step-father of Jesus, and Fuck Montreal close it out with their rendition of 'Do You Hear What I Hear?'. Front cover art by the enigmatic MC Nugget, back cover by the H.A.N.S.!" |

"Halloween Compilation" Cassette
(Holy Page) |
$5.00
|
Get Off The Coast says: "From Acid Glasses' short opener onward the whole thing is a triumph of his curatorship, showcasing varying degrees of tongue-in-cheekiness and a whole spectrum of tones as bands run the gamut between noise and pop, with at least one short and truly notable pit-stop made for some new minimalist hip hop from Pop Culture Shaman (may God have mercy on his soul)."
Lost Sound Tapes says: "Comp features iji and Just Another Snake Cult!"

Velma And The Happy Campers
"Songs About Parking Lots" Cassette
(Scotch Tapes) |
$5.00
|
Last.fm says: "Shit happens when you listen to records and read comic books. Despite the whole 'and the Happy Campers' thing Velma plays all the instruments and as of now just shows up with a guitar, a pedal, and a bass amp to play shows."
Lost Sound Tapes says: "Stripped down, acoustic, bedroom folk." |

Wabash
"Never Homeless" Cassette
(PJ Records) |
$5.00
|
Wabash says: "This is the latest Wabash album, released in May 2009. It will probably be the last Wabash album, at least for a long while.
The songs loosely tell the true story of going to Christian college for a semester in rural southern Illinois, not feeling like I belonged, dealing with my family's reaction to me leaving school, moving to Chicago, still not feeling like I belonged, and finally realizing that with so many amazing friends, I'm never very far from home.
Victor V-B played drums and bass on several songs. I spent a lot more time producing this album than any other album, and I hope you can tell."

*Featured!* Watercolor Paintings
"With The Light On" 7"
(Yay!) |
$5.00
|
Phoning It In says: "Rebecca writes the songs, plays the harp, and is also in Girl Band and maybe Sausage Dog. Josh (aka Hoshwa) plays the baritone ukulele, sometimes records as Cave Babies, and is the dancing genius behind the 5...4...3...2...fun!! radio show. Don't let Joanna Newsom or the Renaissance Festival lull you into thinking there's only one way to skin a harp, though. Watercolor Paintings make intimate and perfect Impressionistic pop songs, a far-cry from psych-folk pretensions, or any pretensions at all, really."

Watercolor Paintings/Madeline Ava
"Split" 7"
(Skulltula/Sidejar Records) |
$5.00
|
Sidejar Records says: "Madeline Ava now lives in Bloomington IN. She is one of my best friends, and her music has gotten better the last few years, which was amazing to begin with. Watercolor Paintings is from Santa Barbara CA. This is unlike any other of their stuff I've heard. It's acually way better, which also saying alot. So basically, this split is full of songs from people I love, who are writing better music than they ever have!!! This is a split release with Skulltula Records. Cover art by Chris Clavin!" |

Woman Year
"May Peace Bewitch You" Cassette
(Life's Blood) |
$5.00
|
Life's Blood says: "Wholly discombobulated pop gems. This album is filled with totally bewildering guitar playing, dope beats, and some of the weirdest overtly pop music I've ever heard. It's like the recontexualization of all sorts of fringe and avantgarde in a pop context without any net loss. There’s enough variety, too, often within one track, to warrant several immediate repeat listens. Woman Year is the work of Michael RJ Saalman, whom you have maybe heard as guitarist warlock in Afternoon Brother (whose truly shredding "Maiden America" we've just released recently), as well as in his work both live and on record with Pregnant. 50 white tapes with printed labels, 13 jammin tracks." |
