Finally available - WCP/Mutes "With Love" tape

rebeccas Yep, it's true. The Watercolor Paintings/Clitorectomy and the Mutilators tape (LST-09) is now in the Lost Sound Tapes store section. Originally available only on the WCP/Mutes spring Californian tour, but now it's up for grabs to the general public. 100 copies total, less than 50 left. Hop on it if you'd like a copy! Bright yellow card stock covers with a hand drawn cover designed by Rebecca Riley. Black and white printed labels on white tapes, held inside clear polycases. Take a look to your right for a very accurate portrayal of what these two songwriters are like on a daily basis. How can you not be interested? Right?

LOTS more tapes coming out in the near future!
Here's what we have planned for the second half of the year:
Faux Jerome "Faux Jerome" tape - Tomm Johnson aka Tricera aka Track Mastra's new musical project. An eclectic hip hop beat tape from this fresh project.
Cave Babies "Green Album" tape - Hoshwa from Watercolor Paintings solo music. Ukulele, chord organ, trumpet, and percussion. Awesome.
Super Famicom "The Wandering Floret" tape - PJ Famicom is releasing 8 albums, Wandering Floret Pt. 1-8, on 8/8/08. We're proud to be one of the labels releasing this. LOOK OUT!
Blanket Truth "Indoor Camping" tape - Full length album, completely different recordings from the CD version that is being released on Now Hereness Records. Solo, boombox recordings.
James Rabbit tape - A double album re-release on tape of two out of print CDs from these fun-loving, quirky, indie poppers. A special little something else from them at the end of the year.

Other stuff too, but it's secretive for now! More on that when things are confirmed. Yesssss!

New tapes from iji and Your Heart Breaks

Hurray for new LST releases! We've finally turned double digits. LST-11 and LST-10 are available now: iji "Soup / Salad" tape and Your Heart Breaks "Love is a Long Dark Road" tape. Not to mention we also made a second run of the first iji tape we released titled "Sorry Seashells".

iji "Soup / Salad" is a double album with some of the best songs to date! Catchy, fun indie pop, now with extra female vocals. Spaced out extra long songs on the B-side accompanied with two stories about melons. Side A is a bit more of the cute, hooky, sing alongs that you've come to know and love. Soup and salad colored labels.

In case you missed it the first time around, there are now 100 more copies of the iji "Sorry Seashells" tape available. Side A is the album "Sorry About the Lo-Fi" which contains the instant classic "Gangster Grillz". Side B is the best of Zach's old band Seashells. You can't lose! Second pressing has white tapes with printed labels.

Your Heart Breaks "Love is a Long Dark Road"
is now ready for purchase, as well! After an epic recording session at Dub Narcotic in Olympia, we have a 10 song album to present to you in the beloved cassette format. Bright orange tapes! Printed, die-cut labels! Fantastic songs! Cameos by Karl Blau, Steve Moore, Kimya Dawson, LAKE, Led To Sea and at least a dozen others. Compared to the previous YHB outings, the pop songs are sugarier and the slow songs are sadder than ever. Break your heart and rebuild it in 30 minutes flat.

For those waiting on the Watercolor Paintings/Clitorectomy and the Mutilators "With Love" tapes, have no fear, they have not been forgotten about. There have been some issues with the cover, but that should be remedied by next week and it'll be ready to go.

Up next after the WCP/CatM tapes is an album by Faux Jerome. FJ is Tomm Johnson aka Tricera's new project. A bangin' hip hop beat tape packaged in red and black flannel slipcases. Real slippery. Is red/black flannel still "in"?

As usual, tapes are $3 plus shipping ($2 for one item OR $3 for as many as you want). If you are outside of the United States, please email us before ordering! lostsoundtapes@gmail.com THANKS.

Seasonal Splits boxset, temporarily sold out !!! More on the way !!!

So, I just sold the last copy that I have available of the Seasonal Splits boxset. I'm so sorry if you want one now and do not want to wait for us to make a second pressing. When they are back again there will be 200 more copies instead of the original 100 that we made (by hand, and with love & affection, might I add). There will be a different color ink on the CDR and there will be a different pattern for the spine. Ya know, in case people want to be nerdy and differentiate pressings (nothing wrong with that). MORE will be available in the next month or so. Please sign up for the mailing list and you will be the first to know when you can order them again. Even though it is still up in the store momentarily, please do not order it! I'm taking it down as soon as I have a minute (right now I just got back from playing a show with The Besties from NY and I'm beat). If you do somehow find a way to order it, I will not have more copies any sooner (your tenacity will be duly noted though).

In the mean time, check out some of the other fine items we have in the store section of the site. Seven inches, cds, and more cassettes can be found there.

Real soon, look for new releases by Watercolor Paintings, Clitorectomy and the Mutilators, iji, and Tricera. WORD.

Watercolor Paintings on tour, new tape, and more

WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS/CLITORECTOMY & THE MUTILATORS TOUR AND SPLIT TAPE ---
Hey y'all! We're back again with a new release. It's a live tour cassette between friends/housemates/tourmates Watercolor Paintings and Clitorectomy & The Mutilators. No, the Mutes aren't a grindcore band, they're a political, old timey, female-fronted, country-ish band! Even better than you are expecting, really! You might recognize Watercolor Paintings from the compilation, Ukulele & So Can I, or you might recognize them from playing shows in Santa Barbara (or other parts of the country). Endearing songs for fans of Kimya Dawson, Mirah, etc. All the songs were recorded live and they're fantastic! Watercolor Paintings even has a new drummer! (don't worry, no Hoshwa's were harmed in the switchover). I was skeptical about releasing a live tape but it works out.

Catch the WCP/CATM tour, they'll have the new cassette for sale!
Mar 21 Santa Cruz, CA @ Resource Center for Non-Violent Action
Mar 23 Oakland, CA @ Rock! Paper! Scissors! Collective
Mar 24 San Francisco, CA @ Anarchist Bookfair After Party House Show
Mar 25 Napa, CA @ Slack Ranch
Mar 27 Sacramento, CA @ N Street House
Mar 28 Sacramento, CA @ Cool Cat Gallery

Apr 03 Los Angeles, CA @ Found Gallery [Silverlake]
Apr 04 Los Angeles, CA @ a house show with Griznar Collective
Apr 05 San Diego, CA @ Che Cafe
Apr 06 Santa Barbara, CA @ Arden Garden

We will be putting up copies for sale as soon as the covers are mailed to me. I'm unsure if it will be before or after the tour, but it will be in the near future.

LOST SOUND TAPES AVAILABILITY UPDATES ---
We're down to the last copies of the Seasonal Splits boxset! If you want a copy from the first pressing and/or don't want to wait for us to make a new batch, I'd suggest ordering soon. There are about 5 copies left from the original 100 and it was just released at the end of last/beginning of this year. When we make a second run they will have a different pattern on the spine and different colored ink on the CDR, to distinguish from the first batch.

I have supplies to make a second run of the iji "Sorry Seashells" tape, which should be available again in a couple weeks (or less). This time white tapes and printed labels, instead of clear purple tapes and handwritten labels. It has "Sorry About the Lo-Fi" on Side A and the best of Zach's old band Seashells on the other side. The tape spans 60 minutes, which means you're paying $1 for every 20 minutes and that's a pretty good deal if you ask me.

Don't forget to check out the Blanket Truth/Matthew Czerwinski split, Bear Hugs, and Red Pony Clock tapes while you're here!

Seasonal Splits boxset out now! and more...

The Seasonal Splits boxset is now available to be consumed by the masses. 4 cassettes, one representing each season, contain music by 8 different solo musicians singing songs about their respective seasons, spanning 33 tracks, running just under 60 minutes. Bands/musicians herein: Blanket Truth / Milly Geronimo (Winter), Shelby Sifers / Rian James (Spring), Super Famicom / Watercolor Paintings (Summer), and iji / Jellybean! (Autumn). The multicolored tapes come housed in a white cassette album with full color artwork, handwritten cassette "labels", and plenty of trading card-style inserts. ALSO comes with a CDR of the music for convenience and the analogically challenged.

Also now available is the Blanket Truth/Matthew Czwerwinski split cassette. You might recognize Matthew from his work in the band A Drum And An Open Window, who have released a couple CDs on Oh! Map Records. These are much more upbeat songs that his usual solo material, it resembles Drum and Window a little more these days. MC lays down 4 tracks for ya. BT is back again with 3 new pop songs including a song that has been foretold to one day make him famous(?!). There's also a slightly too long sound clip from The Office. It comes in a handmade, stamped, cut, and pasted cover on white C-22 tapes with stamped, blue, parchment labels. All the covers are unique, the images on the front came from a Japanese graphic novel I found at a coffee shop.

Lots more to come during 2000 and GREAT! Including tapes by Patience Please, The Hat Company, Craig Salt Peters, Anthony Junior, and plenty of others. Stay tuned! If you'd like to subscribe to the news feed, you can now do so right above here or just sign up for regular newsletter at the right side of the page. Oh the options!

Hurray! TWO new releases on Lost Sound Tapes. Not one, but two! 3 on the way and a release show in late December!

Bear Hugs "Acoustic Demos" tape. It's been in the making for over a year. They write songs about animals from an animal perspective. Full color cover, typewritten labels, carefully assembled. This band features (featured) members of North Lincoln and Andy Dick Tracy Morgan Freeman. These songs are catchy as anything, pick it up in the store. Follow the link for an mp3.

Red Pony Clock "Live in Thousand Oaks" tape. Recorded at the beginning of the year, it is now making its formal debut into the world. Sure, you could download the set and the sets of all the other bands from that night here, then burn it to a cd, then record it onto a cassette tape. OR you could buy it from me and I'll do the work for you, AND you'll get some handmade packaging to put it in. Grab a copy from the store. Follow the link for an mp3.

The website is still being updated, it's a slow process at the moment. So much life happening, ya know? Also, I have 3 more releases planned by the end of the year!
- Blanket Truth/Matthew Czerwinski split tape
- iji "Soup or Salad" tape
- Various Artists "Seasonal Splits" series boxset
(feat. Watercolor Paintings, Super Famicom, iji, Jellybean, Shelby Sifers, Rian James, Milly Geronimo, and Blanket Truth)

The website is coming along nicely. I set up apache, php, mysql, and phpmyadmin locally so I can work on the website directly on my home computer and not have to mess up this site to do it. Cool! Took longer than expected to get those all installed properly but it's working.

In other news, I just ordered cassettes the other day for the Red Pony Clock "Live + Acoustic in T.O." tape and Bear Hugs "Acoustic Demos" tape. YES! The Bear Hugs tape is finally going to see the light of day. Great songs about animals from an animal perspective. The Red Pony Clock is a live set from a show they played in my hometown of Thousand Oaks, CA, last January. Not usually an acoustic band, RPC adapted to be able to rock a some kids in a park. There will be 100 copies of each tape and then possibly more in the further future.

For those of you who are still looking for a copy of "Ukulele & So Can I" there are a few copies available from Now Hereness Records and the band fire island, AK.
